Champaign, IL – Oct. 21, 2009 – Illinois 4-H Foundation today received a $20,000 contribution from the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program to assist with advancing their technological needs. The grant will go toward the purchase of new equipment to help foster statewide interaction among staff and youth across the state.  This gift will also make Walmart an Illinois 4-H Project Partner in the Healthy Living project area.

“Thanks to this generous contribution from the Walmart Foundation, the Illinois 4-H program staff will be able to increase their connectivity statewide—something that is critical in maintaining and enhancing the outstanding programming that the 4-H Youth Development Program is known for,” commented Angie Barnard, director of the Illinois 4-H Foundation.  “We are also very pleased to welcome Walmart as an Illinois 4-H Project Partner.  Their involvement in our Healthy Living project area aligns perfectly with the Walmart Foundation’s mission of supporting health and wellness.”

The Illinois 4-H Foundation will be using the funds to purchase new technology including such things as webcams and headsets for each county extension office. These advancements in technology will allow every 4-H community worker and 4-H program coordinator to improve communication with both staff and third-party organizations that work with 4-H. The new technology also will provide youth the opportunities to become more engaged at a state level by serving on various councils and committees.

“Walmart is very pleased to be supporting the Illinois 4-H Foundation. It has a long history of positively impacting young people’s lives and we are proud to be a part of it,” said Bisio. “We hope this advancement in technology will provide these youth and staff the resources they need to continue to be successful in this program.”
